U.S. and Canadian Customs Bonded

U.S. Customs Bond

For international loads that have not cleared U.S. customs, ARL Transport LLC is able to transport those loads from the port of shipper to a U.S. customs bonded facility for inspection. When you are ready to set up this account, our Accounts Receivable Department will be able to provide a copy of the bond to your customer. When having driver transport this type of freight, you must verify that they are familiar with the requirements, which are as follows:

  • All load paperwork must be signed by a uniformed U.S. Customs Official. They cannot leave the facility without this signature.
  • When you get the load paperwork, you have to verify with your contact that the bond has been released by customs.

If during this process you encounter any issues, please contact the Safety Department at safety@arlnetwork.com. If bond is not released, we will be responsible for the tax, tariff and/or duties on this freight.

Safety needs to receive a list of all load numbers that are moving TIRs on a weekly basis. This is to save time should customs need to audit or locate missing paperwork to clear our bond from a load.

If for any reason your truck is going to be late or not make the appointment, you must contact the customer, customs facility, and safety immediately.

Canadian Customs Bond

For loads being transported across the border into or out of Canada, you will need to deal with a Customs Broker at the border. Many times, this broker is a company set up by the shipper to whom we have to provide both a copy of our Canadian bond and load paperwork. In a large percentage of the shippers, they will forward the paperwork before the truck leaves their facility. Please keep in mind that the broker will need the paperwork at least one hour before the truck arrives. The broker will prepare all necessary documents pertaining to tax, tariff, and/or duties on the freight so that the responsible party is billed for them. In most cases, you will also have to create an E-Manifest and/or attach a Paps or Pars Bar Code to the paperwork.

If you will be doing a lot of border work, it is recommended that your drivers become FAST qualified, which will save them a lot of time at the border. When they become FAST qualified, please provide a copy of their FAST card to the Safety Department. Another option for the drivers is to have an enhanced license, also a time saver.
